BHA Engineering - Mud Motor Selection

One of the most important considerations in meeting the needs of your drilling project is to complete each hole section in one run. The selection of the proper bit which will be most cost effective in the projected formation is the first consideration. Once the best bit has been selected, the Predator Technologies directional drilling staff will design a BHA which will best meet the power needs and RPM requirements of the bit as well as the directional and hydraulic requirements of the hole. In this process, many factors which affect the directional and hydraulic characteristics of the hole including hole cleaning ability, bit jet diameter, weight on bit and hole size are taken into account. Once again, the primary focus of this analysis is to design a BHA which will meet the requirements of the well plan and be able to complete each hole section in one run. At this time, Predator Technologies has contractual agreements with the major mud motor manufacturers in the world to insure availability of the best mud motor for your application.

However, being able to provide the best motor available today for your drilling application is not enough for the Directional Team at Predator Technologies. There are many instances when a motor with higher performance standards would be better able to handle the hole conditions encountered today. And as exploration continues into more remote and technologically difficult drilling areas, the motors of the future will require higher performance standards.

Predator Technologies has an ongoing research and development program aimed at development of that motor, the next generation mud motor, which we call the "Piranha" Mud Motor.
